In July 2025, raging wildfires swept through northern Latakia in Syria, leaving devastation in their wake. Over 1,900 families were forced to flee their homes, and more than 100 square kilometers of land—once filled with crops, livestock, and life—was reduced to ash.
In the wake of this destruction, one need rises above the rest: food.
The Crisis
For families in rural Syria, agriculture isn’t just a way of life—it’s survival. With farmlands scorched and food stores destroyed, those who were already struggling now face unbearable choices: skip meals, borrow food, or go without.
The wildfires didn’t just burn trees and homes—they destroyed livelihoods, access to clean food, and dignity.
Our Response: Emergency Food Baskets
At Penny Appeal USA, we’re responding with what’s most urgently needed: emergency food relief. Our team is distributing food baskets to the most vulnerable families, prioritizing:
Female-headed households
Elderly individuals
People with disabilities
Large families
Recently returned refugees
Each food basket is designed to meet humanitarian standards, providing approximately 2,100 kcal per person per day. Contents include durable staples like rice, lentils, bulgur, chickpeas, sugar, oil, tahini, dates, sardines, and more—enough to keep a family nourished through this critical time.
We’re also committed to inclusive distribution. That means ensuring safe, accessible food aid delivery to elderly residents, caregivers, and people with limited mobility.
Why It Matters Now
This is not just a natural disaster—it’s a humanitarian emergency.
Entire harvests have been lost.
Families are relying on unsafe coping strategies just to eat.
Local and international aid has been slow to reach rural communities.
Your support can fill that gap.
